“It is very hard not to see oneself as the byproduct of one’s personal history. But there is an inner energy which seeks something larger from us. And so at some point, each of us is obliged to say, ‘I am not only what happened to me; I am also what I choose to become’” James Hollis, The Eden Project: In Search of the Magical Other.
Hello and welcome to my website.
I am a fully-qualified counselling therapist working in private practice in the White Peak of Derbyshire. I provide a confidential, safe and supportive environment in which you can explore and understand any difficulties, issues and problems that we can all experience on our journey through life.
I take an integrative approach to counselling with clients, using a variety of theoretical approaches which are beneficial to the individual and their unique concerns. As Jung stated: “The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases”. I believe that any psychological theory must be rooted in the core conditions and values outlined by Carl Rogers, the father of the Person-Centred approach to counselling.
In our journey we are all searching for our individual still point, a place of calm and inner understanding which allows us to make positive choices for the future, become aware of destructive and repeated patterns of behaviour, and ultimately lead a more fulfilling way of life. Within this site I hope you find the potential path to solutions to your concerns, and an understanding of how counselling and psychotherapy can support you in your choice to change. In addition, I will also include a series of external links to other counsellors, therapists, theorists and writers who have had a profound affect on me and my own personal understanding of what it means to be an individual in an irrational and ever-changing world.
